Tissue Fun

One night, mummy was in the study doing her work and Imah was in the kitchen doing the laundry. Daddy wasn't home and I was left alone in the living room to entertain myself with my toys. I was unusually silent for a long while before Imah walked out of the kitchen and found this....

She quickly called mummy to look and mummy managed to capture all these snapshots of me caught in the act of being very naughty. Actually it was only the adults who thought I was naughty. I was in fact having lots of fun pulling tissues of the box.

Oh oh... caught in the act.

Tearing tissue into tiny bits requires lots of concentration.

Throwing tissue around is fun too.

Mummy, don't take my picture!!!

Tissue on my head.

Growing Up Gifted

Yesterday I went for my first lesson at Growing Up Gifted (GUG). Mummy signed me up for lessons cos she thinks I lack social skills. The enrichment class was also supposed to develop multiple intelligence and foster bonding between me and mummy.

The lesson was fine and I enjoyed myself wandering around the classroom while the teachers were talking. They taught the alphabet through phonics and had many other activities. I liked the singing most. They sang my favourites like "The wheels on the bus" and "When you're happy". Mummy walked around with me and helped me with the actions.

But what I really didn't like was the craft session. The teacher had a big name for it...sensory experience. She made me put on this dirty apron, and you know how I dislike putting on clothes. Then she squeezed shaving foam on the table in front of me, put two dollops of red and yellow paint into the foam, and expected me to mix it up with my hands. So messy and dirty!!!!! Of course I refused to touch the mess. Mummy tried to convince me that it was fun and she put my hand into the mess. I burst into tears and then smeared the messy orange mixture onto mummy's shirt, watch and rubber band. Hahahaha.... I cried and cried when it took so long for me to queue up and wash my hands. And I screamed so loudly that Imah heard me from outside the school and came in to see who was torturing me.

Hehehehe.... it was fun overall. But I hope there won't be anything messy next week.

Shoe hog

In the west, there was a tradition that parents would have their child's first pairs of shoes bronzed and framed. These days, shoes are affordable enough and available in such a variety of cute styles that they are no longer treated like heirlooms. However, we still thought it would be a good idea to document and keep a record of Gerald's shoes.

These are the shoes he has owned in his 14 months. These are not counting the numerous booties he wore when he was tiny. Now I shall introduce each pair.

1. Soft yellow booties

These were his "going out" booties from about 5 mths onwards. Soft and warm for his little toes. He wore them everywhere he went and they kept him snug. . .

2. Little bear shoes

These were bought at Mothercare because mummy couldn't resist such cute furry shoes. Gerald looked simply adorable wearing them, even though he didn't need another pair of shoes at 6 months.

3. Tigger Booties

These were bought from Kiddy Palace as Gerald outgrew his old booties. We couldn't find Winnie the Pooh (which some said Gerald looked like) but Tigger served just as well cos Gerald was very bouncy from 6 to 12 months.

4. White track soft shoes

These were the first pair of "track shoes" owned by Gerald. They were made of soft leather to ensure that his little growing feet are not restricted and well-ventilated.

5. White Winnie Shoes

These were bought when Gerald started toddling around. Unfortunately he only wore these a few times before he wore a hole in one of them during the looooong walk at the Botanic Gardens.

6. His first Clarks

These were bought immediately after he spoilt the previous pair. We went straight to Centrepoint from Botanic Gardens and bought him his first pair of branded (aka. expensive) shoes.

Home Sweet Home

Mummy went to fetch Gerald at popo's house today. He stared at mummy for a while before he burst into tears and refused to let mummy carry him. So sad. Only stay at popo's house for 4 days and he can't recognise mummy.

But he calmed down after a while and when we reached home, he was happily playing with mummy again.

Daddy got to book out tonight and the whole family went to Compasspoint for dinner. Gerald is getting naughtier. He insisted on walking even though he cannot really walk. He screamed when we carried him or put him in his pram. He made us hold his hands while he toddled around, taking ages to walk 100m.

After all that exercise, he fell asleep in his pram on the walk home from the LRT station. Hahaha... he is still snoozing peacefully in his cot right now, even though he has not bathed or eaten his night meal.

Still, mummy is really glad to have him home again. Muah muah!!!

Camping...

Today is daddy's first day in reservist camp. He will be away from 21 Nov to 10 Dec. Almost 3 whole weeks!!! Mummy is also still busy in school.... besides marking Project Work files, there are also meetings and planning sessions for orientation. There wouldn't be anyone at home.

So Gerald is going to camp at popo's place for 1 week too. This is the first time Gerald will be away from daddy and mummy for so long. So far, he has only stayed for 1 night now and then at mahmah's place when mummy had to stay overnight in school. But now it's 5 whole days!!!!

Mummy will definitely miss him!!!

Flaxseed

Here is the flaxseed that Auntie Heryanti gave mummy to feed me. It contains fiber, lignans and Omega-3 fats. It's supposed to be good for brain development.

According to what mummy has found on the web: "Flaxseed is very high in omega-3 essential fatty acids. It's the omega 3s -- "good" fats -- that researchers are looking at in terms of their possible effects on lowering cholesterol, stabilizing blood sugar, lowering the risk of breast, prostate, and colon cancers, and reducing the inflammation of arthritis, as well as the inflammation that accompanies certain illnesses such as Parkinson's disease and asthma.

In addition to the omega-3s, the remaining two components of flaxseed -- lignans and fiber -- are being studied for their health benefits as well. Lignans, for example, act as both phytoestrogens and antioxidants, while the fiber contained in the flaxseed is of both the soluble and insoluble type."

Mummy has ground the flaxseed into powder to add to my cereal and porridge. Actually, she just hopes that the flaxseed with increase my brian power.

It all part of her grand plan to turn me into a President Scholar.

Muahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Haircut

Just brought Gerald for a haircut yesterday (13 Nov). We went to Junior League at Paragon and his haircut cost $15. I don't remember my haircut costing so much. My haircut cost like $8 up to the time I was in Sec 4. I gave up cutting my hair in JC altogether...

Here's a picture of him with his nice, new haircut.

He screamed the moment the hairdresser (yup, a hairdresser... gone were the days when mothers just put a bowl over their son's head and give him a coconut cut) took out the razor.

It took 3 persons to hold him down. Mummy, maid and Aunty Hai Nee were covered with hair in no time while Gerald screamed and squirmed and tried to twist his head away. Many people peered into the shop, wondering who was being slaughtered. Some smiled indulgently and some pointed to Gerald and ask if their own children wanted a haircut. Haha! I bet the hairdresser thought that the $15 was very hard-earned.

Oh well, as long as my Gerald is handsome!!! Kiss Kiss... MUAH!!!

Passport Photo

This photo was taken by Cheong Hoe on Sunday (6 Nov) at Salleh's house when we were over for a Hari Raya makan session.

He looked so stunned right? And yet sooooo cute that you feel like reaching into the photo to pinch his cheek.

Cheong Hoe actually took a similar photo for him last year... almost exactly a year ago. It was supposed to be a passport photo but I never got round to getting a passport for him, so I ask Cheong Hoe to take a new one.

This was his "passport photo" taken last year. So different right? Can't believe he has grown and changed so much over a year.

I can hardly remember him as a tiny baby already. Now he can crawl around (walk if you hold his hands) and get into all sorts of mischief. His favourite toys seem to be the DVD player (press open... close... open... close...) and the telephone (toot... toot... tooot... crash!!!! [sound of handset dropping to the ground]).

And it wasn't so long ago that he was just a tiny babe that didn't do much except to lie on his back and make little noises. I remember thinking how boring it is to watch a baby so young. And I was wishing he would grow up quickly so I can play with him.

Hmmm................ now I've gotten what I have wished for and more.

Gerald, stay cute always!!!!

Children's church

Background:
Praise Fellowship's mummies decided to get together and start a small children's ministry because the number of children running in the outer courts during service finally got too large.

Besides the very many children, the more important, and distracting, thing is that they are noisy. To the extent that the congregation kept looking back to see what is happening.

So finally, on Saturday (5th Nov), our 1st session on children's church was held.

Grace led the songs and Esther did the story-telling and the craft session.

Main Story:
It was Gerald's first time in a structured environment with so many kids. He has not been to any playgroup or enrichment class before. Mummy is trying to sign him up but there's a waiting list at Growing up Gifted.

He cried!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (so malu...)
Once when everybody started clapping. He just looked up in shock and burst into tears.
Second time was when free-play time was over and people were trying to pack up the toys.

He fidgeted during story-time.
He tried to grab two crayons and refused to colour at craft time.
He couldn't really sit still at snack time.

Yet... I'm so proud that he has attended his own little service for the first time!

Gerald's 1st worksheet from Children's church.

Of course he had loads of help from mummy in colouring the star.

Botanic gardens

Gerald recently started stumbling around with his hippo walker so we decided to bring him to the Botanic Gardens for more space to exercise.

So his first official trip was taken on Friday (4th Nov). Here is a picture of Gerald and mummy. He doesn't usually appear in the same photo as mummy as mummy is usually the one holding the camera.

He is a bit grumpy in this photo. Actually he is grumpy in most photos nowadays as he is at the age when is it difficult to get him to smile into the camera. The usual expression is "Why are you pointing this thing at me?" or "Why you dun let me play with this thing?"

The trip to the Botanic Gardens was also Gerald's first time coming into contact with grass. I mean, he has seen it, but he hasn't actually touched it before. From the looks of it, he did not enjoy it very much. He basically poked at it a bit and then complained when we left him sitting on the grass. He seems to find it a bit scratchy to crawl in.

Mummy, help me!!! I dun like this green, pokey thing.

Somebody get me off the grass!!!

He definitely enjoyed walking on the concrete paths a lot better. A true blue city boy. Born and bred in a concrete jungle. I made a mental note to help him get in touch with nature more often.

Gerald actually managed to walk through most of the gardens with his walker. From the visitor centre all the way past the symphony lake to almost the front of the gardens. We stopped at the granite ball cos mummy and daddy was tired.

Here's Gerald happily walking on the road.

With mummy keeping an eye on Gerald, he needn't be afriad of falling at all.

The walk ended at the huge
granite ball.

Gerald actually walked so much that he walked a hole in his shoe!!!!

After the walk, we actually went down to Centrepoint and bought him a sturdier pair of shoes. but that's another story altogether.

Watch this space for it!!!!
